Seco Tools (Troy, MI) has introduced a new range of Liteline™ fine boring heads and holders, which feature a high strength:weight ratio for faster tool changes and quicker spindle acceleration. The lighter weight—30 to 60 percent lighter than classic boring assemblies—enables companies to perform boring operations in applications where steel assemblies are too heavy for the tool changer and spindle.

"Our customers expressed a need to expand the capability of their light duty machines in boring applications," says Seco Tools Product Manager Thomas Sandrud. "The reduced weight of the Liteline solution addresses this issue by reducing the stress on the spindle to offer higher productivity through shorter machining time, faster tool changes and quicker spindle acceleration."

The Liteline boring heads are made from high tensile aluminum, but with a steel connection shank that provides superior rigidity. The insert holder is supported by the head’s body to eliminate any risk of deflection They are pre-balanced to allow for speeds up to 8000 RPM, and can achieve a hole diameter of IT5.

Cutting forces do not affect the head’s micrometric setting, making Liteline boring heads suitable for interrupted cuts and providing improved surface finish.

The Liteline range is composed of four light radial boring heads with a range of extensions, reducers, adapters and arbors. Importantly, these are all standard items for immediate availability.
