The recent recession in the global economy put a wrinkle in the production levels of aerospace products, but the overall effect was only a moderate decline in total output. Due to the long leadtimes and global nature of this industry, it does not follow the usual manufacturing business cycle. The never-ending quest to make commercial aircraft lighter and more energy efficient combined with strong demand from the defense department will spur future demand. Output of aerospace products is expected to remain at an elevated level in the coming quarters.
