Okuma America Corporation hosted more than 200 customers from 100 companies at its 2017 Summer Showcase. The event took place July 19-20,2017, in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Participants viewed cutting demonstrations on more than 15 machine tools and educated them on technologies that the company says can offer a competitive edge. Demonstrations featured material cutting on titanium, stainless steel and aluminum. The demonstrations focused on the automotive industry.

The summer showcase highlighted Okuma’s new laser technology. The Laser Ex series features technology combines subtractive and additive manufacturing, coating and precision hardening on multitasking machines. Okuma also displayed tool connection features with OSP control, IIoT and MTConnect. Okuma says that the data collection and analysis features enable customers to improve profitability.

At the show, Okuma displayed trochoidal milling and Sandvik Coromant Prime Turning. Trochoidal milling and other alternative tool paths enable higher feeds and speeds. Prime Turning is a methodology that enables turning in all directions. The company says that this methodology provides for more flexibility, productivity and efficiency when cutting chips, and that the methodology can reduce cycle time by as much as 50 percent.
