Last Friday, I celebrated American Manufacturing Day by attending cutting tool manufacturer Walter USA’s inauguration of its brand new Walter North American Technology Center. Besides the media, guests included Walter Americas President Muff Tanriverdi, Walter AG President Mirko Merlo, Wisconsin Lt. Governor Rebecca Kleefisch, AMT VP-Exhibitions & Communications Peter Eelman, and Waukesha County Business Alliance President Suzanne Kelley. There were a number of speeches given and the event concluded with a ribbon cutting and tree planting ceremony before we were presented with a delicious buffet lunch.

With the recent industry buzz about reshoring, this was a wonderful event to be a part of. This new facility will have demonstration and application trial areas devoted to involving real-world applications and Walter cutting tool technology. Tanriverdi explained this center will be used to help educate customers, channel partners and employees on the company’s product, as well as move forward with Walter’s new competence brand, Walter Multiply—that deals with service support to end users in the areas of planning, manufacturing, logistics, maintenance and training. Just like mold work is coming back to the U.S., Tanriverdi wants everyone to know that, “Walter is open for business in Wisconsin!”
