August’s cover shows the machining of a mold insert for a PET bottle mold. The Heidenhain TNC 640 control allowed the operator to machine the cavity in full five-axis using the dynamic precision features of the CNC as well as the mill-turn functions to machine the casing flange and the insert in the same setup. 1 Understanding how data is processed helps to select the appropriate CNC control for a five-axis machine to optimize machining time, surface finish quality and workpiece accuracy.
