At last week’s AMBA convention, Laurie Harbour opened her presentation with one of my favorite takeaways: “The industry and world are changing, and we have to change with it.” Throughout her discussion, she shared invaluable advice on a number of topics vital to running a smooth mold manufacturing facility—examining process flow throughout the shop, program management, capacity constraints, cross-training employees and value-stream mapping. She espoused the value of shops sharing information and best practices. It is important that today’s mold manufacturers get out there. Attend conferences, trade shows and webinars. Read trade publications. Tour mold shops. Stay abreast of the latest and greatest technologies and equipment. Heed Laurie’s advice or you could get left behind.
