Watch Solutions for Hard Milling This video is of a 62 Rockwell piece of A2. We are cutting using a collapsing tool path starting from the inside and going outward doing a Z-level roughing routine. This tool path is also utilizing Trochoidal roughing, creating little arcing motions and morphing out on the part as it goes along. The cutter we are using is a Hitachi TH coated cutter. It is a three millimeter ballnose endmill. It is two flute in this case. We're running at 19,000 rpm. Feedrate is 3,400 millimeters a minute or 333 inches per minute. The radial depth of cut or radial step over just over a millimeter. The axial depth of cut is 0.15 millimeters or .006 inch step down. Our chip load is 89 microns or .003 of an inch per tooth. The total cycle time for this part is a 16 minutes. |
