MoldMaking Technology welcomes new members of the EAB.

Please join me in welcoming two new members to the Editorial Advisory Board of MoldMaking Technology magazine. They both come from an extensive background in mold manufacturing and have much expertise—and experience—to offer the publication.

Mike Zacharias, President of Extreme Tool and Engineering (Wakefield, MI)—which was named MoldMaking Technology magazine’s 2006 Leadtime Leader Winner, Large Shop—is a journeyman moldmaker and a third generation tool-maker. His experience includes toolmaking, mold design, project engineering and management, and plant management positions prior to starting Extreme.

Previous employers include Ironwood Plastics, Lexmark, and Global Tool and Engineering. Mike has traveled extensively to other plastics manufacturers and his current client base is multinational—including Mexico, Asia, Europe and Puerto Rico.

Extreme’s business uses the best technology available in an aggressive corporate culture to offer the fastest leadtimes in the industry, and also provides service beyond the mold including turnkey solutions. Mike is also proud to be a member of AMBA’s Board of Directors.

Horst Schmidt was born in Germany, educated in North America and is currently the Director of Research and Develop-
ment of A P Plasman Corporation (Windsor, ON). He has more than 25 years experience in the tooling and plastics industry. Much of this time involved in new and leading-edge technologies of the day.

Through A P Plasman Horst was involved in the North American development of Lost Core molding technology, which led the way to convert the North American auto industry to plastic intake manifolds; new developments in gas assist injection molding technology; developing high luster mold in color technology, developing in mold film technology for large exterior automotive parts; and, converting scores of traditionally aluminum parts to plastic. As a result Horst holds numerous patents in various plastic and tooling related areas.

Horst Schmidt is also the vice president of the Canadian Tooling and Machining Association and the treasurer of The Canadian Machine Tool Die and Mould Association.

Editorial Advisory Board Basics

An Editorial Advisory Board (EAB) enhances the standing of the publication and strengthens its professional and academic integrity through the active involvement of its members. EAB members are part of an exclusive group with a variety of responsibilities including the following:

Encourage the submission of topics, articles, research, presentations, interview, profiles and other relevant industry issues.
Provide occasional guest editorials/viewpoints/commentaries.
Represent and promote the magazine’s mission at conferences they may attend.
Provide helpful comments/criticism/information to the editor to assist in the development and direction of the publication.
Help the editors stay on top of moldmaking-related industry trends, news and products.
Act as a reviewer of editorial ideas, recommendations and contributions.
